Why Perak

Reasons to invest in Perak

Perak is Malaysia's fourth-largest state by area. It grew rich on tin: the Kinta Valley around Ipoh was once the richest tin field in the world. Today that space, infrastructure and workforce serve new industries.

In the middle of the west-coast corridor

Most of Malaysia's industry sits along the strip from Penang to Kuala Lumpur and Port Klang. Perak lies between them, on the North–South Expressway and the electrified west-coast rail line.

Eight reasons

What Perak offers investors

Next to the semiconductor belt

Kerian borders Penang and Kulim, so suppliers and plants there can serve the region's chip makers without paying Penang land prices.

Industrial land at scale

New parks such as Kerian Integrated Green Industrial Park (KIGIP), Kerian Industrial City and Silver Valley Technology Park offer large plots for long-term growth.

Lower costs

Land, rent and wages are lower than in neighbouring industrial zones, and Ipoh has one of the lowest living costs among Malaysia's major cities.

Commitments that get built

About 87% of manufacturing investment approved for Perak from 2021 to 2025 has been implemented, according to MIDA data.

A trained workforce

Perak has universities and technical institutes, including Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS and UPSI, plus skills centres serving industry.

Port, road and rail

Lumut Port on the Strait of Malacca, the North–South Expressway, ETS rail and Sultan Azlan Shah Airport in Ipoh.

Open to foreign ownership

Foreign investors can hold 100% of manufacturing companies, and most services sectors have no general equity limit.

A good place to live

Heritage towns, food culture, islands and rainforest make Perak easy to relocate managers and families to.
